SOYBEAN

Soybean cultivation in Ethiopia has grown significantly in recent years due to increasing demand for its use in food products, animal feed, and as an export crop. It is cultivated primarily in regions like Benishangul-Gumuz, Oromia, and the Southern Nations, Nationalities, and Peoples’ Region (SNNPR), benefiting from Ethiopia’s favorable climate. Soybean plays a role in improving soil fertility through nitrogen fixation, making it valuable in crop rotation systems. While still a developing sector, soybean production has been targeted for expansion, with potential for boosting the country’s agricultural exports and supporting the domestic food industry.
