PEANUT

In Ethiopia, the peanut (Arachis hypogaea) is widely cultivated, especially in regions with warm climates like Oromia and Amhara. It is an important legume crop for smallholder farmers, providing both food and income. Peanuts are consumed in various forms, such as roasted snacks, oil, or incorporated into traditional dishes. The crop is also valued for its role in improving soil fertility through nitrogen fixation. Despite its potential, peanut production faces challenges such as drought, pest infestations, and limited access to improved seeds and farming technologies.
