MAIZE

MAIZE

Maize is one of the most important staple crops in Ethiopia, playing a crucial role in food security and rural livelihoods. It is widely cultivated across the country, particularly in the highland and mid-altitude regions, with Oromia and Amhara being the largest producers. Maize contributes significantly to both household consumption and the national economy. Despite its importance, maize production faces challenges such as erratic rainfall, pests (like fall armyworm), and limited access to improved seeds and agricultural inputs. Efforts to improve productivity include the promotion of hybrid varieties, improved farming techniques, and better post-harvest management.
